535 Serial Numbers

01:24 Wed 9th Sep 2009

Hi - I'm another new owner of a Shetland 535. Great little runabout, kept in Ryde Harbour and copes with most sea states in the Solent. Appreciate your difficulty in finding the original brochures, but is there any chance you could publish the Serial Numbers? Mine has the number 3116 on the port side cabin, and the number 18246 beside the cabin door - can anyone help with the year built, and what the second number means?
Many TIA,
Tony.

Hello
I will look into sorting your request in the coming week or so. Currently the boat show is running so it may be a little bit longer.

Thanks for your patience.

Hi Tony

I have been looking up the numbers for you and with your serial number 3116 (from the port side cabin) it indicates that your boat was built in 1971.
With regards to the other number I am not sure what this is in reference to. If you wanted to send a photo to shetlandweb@hotmail.co.uk I can take a look and maybe help.
Thanks

Hi Tony
My 535 has the number 2822 and also was built in 1971. Just goes to show how many were built around that time.

Hi both - many thanks for your very helpful and speedy replies, and apologies for delay - boating has been the last thing on my mind over the winter! Astonishing to see that around 1100 of these were built each year in the early Seventies and that they last so well - mine has its 40th anniversary coming up next year and is happily bouncing around the Solent. Not much luck fishing this month but son & daughter very keen on skiing.
I'm still interested in finding out what the other number means. The plate is a bit faded but I'll attach it to an email as you suggest and see if you have any ideas.
Many thanks for a very useful message board, and best wishes.
Tony.
